Oyetola’s aide accuses Adeleke of neglecting governance for foreign trips

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has come under criticism from Dr. Bolaji Akinola, Special Adviser to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, who accused him of abandoning governance in favour of frequent foreign trips and an extravagant lifestyle.

In a statement, Akinola alleged that the governor had treated his electoral mandate as “a license for frivolities,” claiming that Adeleke spent more than 180 days outside Osun State in 2025.

Rather than pursuing investments or partnerships to benefit the state, Akinola alleged that the governor travelled to destinations in the United States and private islands in the Caribbean, attending social events and private gatherings.

“Governor Adeleke has essentially become a tourist in his own state,” Akinola said, alleging that the governor made at least six personal trips to the United States in 2025 and also travelled to the Caribbean. He described the pattern as a breach of public trust.

Akinola also alleged that even when in Nigeria, the governor rarely spends extended periods in Osogbo, raising concerns, in his view, about continuity in governance and effective coordination of state affairs.

He argued that despite increased federal allocations to states in recent years, there has been little corresponding improvement in infrastructure or social services in Osun.

According to him, several public schools remain understaffed, particularly in science subjects, while healthcare services in both rural and urban communities face serious challenges, leaving vulnerable residents without adequate medical care.

Akinola described the administration as disconnected from the socio-economic realities of residents and urged citizens to remain resolute ahead of August 8, which he referenced as a decisive date for political change.

He maintained that the people of Osun would ultimately determine the state’s leadership direction at the appropriate time.
